Tapering: the psychology of the final weeks

The pre-race taper lasts two weeks. Your highest load and volume week is placed 2-3 weeks out from race day, followed by a recovery week to reset fatigue, leaving race week with only minimal stimulus.

The goal is to arrive at the starting line with a positive Training Stress Balance (TSB), ideally in the +20 zone. But executing the taper is a psychological challenge that we explicitly train for.
